Moon Magic

In astrology, the planets and signs can be seen as Archetypes that exist within each of us. Seeing them in that way we can use astrology as a tool to better understand ourselves. The Moon has been worshipped for thousands of years and continues to this day to be utilised in rituals and everyday magic.

Luminary of the night and the “planet” that travels the zodiacal ring the quickest, with her by your side you can work on your ancestral lineages and past lives, you can also align with her energy for your daily routine and of course practice some dream magic.

She is the Queen of the Emotional Realm.

The Moon is linked to the element of water. She is known for controlling the ocean tides here on Earth and as Humans inhabiting this Earth we are also made of the four elements plus Spirit which links all of the elements and us to the ether in which we exist. Water is one the primordial elements that constitutes us (~60% of the physical body), this makes us emotional beings before anything else, whether the mind might tell us otherwise.

We are first led by our emotions which then becomes a thought and follows with action/reaction or in some cases inaction which we could argue is an action in itself.

Like us the moon has many phases during her monthly cycle (~29 days), making her change sign every 2 or 3 days at most. Depending on what phase Luna is and also which sign she is visiting, she can help us with our solidify our intentions and manifestations.

— Moon Phases —

  • New Moon : intention setting, seed planting

  • Waxing Crescent : watering the seed, building up the root (foundation)

  • First Quarter : deepening intention through physical actions, decision making, implementing boundaries to support goal

  • Waxing Gibbous : narrowing down focus, refining goal

  • Full Moon : releasing, high energy, sealing intentions

  • Waning Gibbous : slow detachment from old, gratitude to move on

  • Last Quarter : turning point, cutting ties, letting, forgiveness

  • Waning Crescent : surrender, complete destruction of old order

… And a new cycle begins with the New Moon in a fresh solar astrological season, the New Moon matching the sign the Sun, luminary of the day, finds himself in. When a Full Moon strikes, Luna will be in the sign opposing the Sun on the wheel of the zodiac. This dance between the two luminaries will create a window of ~6 months from a New Moon, say in Aries happening every april to a Full Moon in Aries during Libra season in sept/oct.

You could utilise this time to set an intention and work towards your goal during the 6 months that follow or vise versa, releasing something during the Full Moon to be ready to receive new blessings on the next New Moon.

Most common magic is done during the New Moon and Full Moon as they are both powerful activation points in her cycle. But, each phase has it’s on qualities and can be used for different rituals if you are called to align with her energy.

You can track the moon here.

A dear astrologer I follow closely Cristina Farella, put me onto Moon Journaling. Which is tracking the moon in her phases and signs to reveal what corners and houses of your birth chart she influences. Maybe adding a little Moon wisdom to your journaling could be illuminating.
